1.       Question on Energy Transfer and Speed

Mr. Matthews has a mass of 70kg.  How heavy is he?

Calculate the speed that Mr. Matthews would hit the ground if he launched himself from the Eiffel Tower.

Data:  The Eiffel Tower is 324m high

HINT: Method for question 1:

• First find the change in gravitational energy.
• If there is no friction, this will be equal to the gain in kinetic energy.
• Rearrange the equation for kinetic energy to first find the square of the speed.
• Now take the square root to find the speed.
